Working through Personal Limitations to Boost Team Performance

At Human Dynamic we partner with organizations to support their leaders and teams enhance the performance review process which enables leadership development, adds success to PIPs and fosters talent management.

Here, we are sharing the story of Terry*,an operations director of an IT solutions company who leads a 10- member strong multi -generational team. Terry experienced a dip in his team’s morale and wanted to engage them effectively by coaching them for performance improvement in which he had very limited experience and expertise.

The program design developed for him was as follows:

Leadership Potential Evaluation (a 300 item, self-assessment developed by Cevey Systems* which provides a leadership profile covering domains of the impact of one’s personality, attitude, ability to handle challenge, consistency to bring results), was administered online to identify his strengths, areas of development and blind spots. This allowed him to objectively understand what he was doing that was beneficial to team leadership and which were the areas in which he needed coaching. He was also able to appreciate the multi-faceted nature of leadership where he needed to bring in different styles for different goals.

Terry shared his coaching feedback as follows:

It’s an amazing experience to go through the program with Human Dynamic’s professional coaching. I got great result for gaining awareness and identify my strength and areas of improvements. The coaching process assisted me to explore my inner frustration, regain positive mindset and gather momentum. I also learnt the performance coaching skills to understand the different needs of my colleagues so that I could use distinctive approaches to talk with them.  Together with my coach, we found solutions to fine-tune my communication skills especially learning practical ways of showing appreciation. We also set up weekly goals and exercises so that I can effectively discuss with my team members and see great results.

Q2 of the year is when our coaches engage with managers to equip them with skills needed for delivering effective feedback, engaging in difficult appraisal conversations and help their team members set goals and chalk out the vision to achieve their performance targets.
